Blog 3- Difference and Similarities between Basketball and Softball

Basketball was my favorite sport in junior high but now its softball. Basketball and softball are very differently but they are also similar. One of the differences is that a basketball ball is bigger than a softball ball. In basketball you make baskets in order to make points and in softball you run bases. In softball you need a bat, a ball, bases, a field and a glove however in basketball all you need is a ball and a court. Before starting the game in both sports the coaches throw a coin to decide who is starting first or which side of the court or field they get. Also, in basketball you need 5 or more players and in softball you need 9 or more players. In softball the positions needed are a pitcher, catcher, first baseman, second baseman, shortstop, third baseman, and 3 outfielders. In basketball the positions needed are a point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center. The shoes softball players use are cleats and the shoes basketball players are high tops. In basketball you use loose shorts and a loose jersey and in softball you use pants or Capri and a shirt. The shirt or jersey in both sports has to have the team name and a number. Also, in both sports you need to score points in order to win. The physical training in basketball and softball is almost the same routine. For example running a lot and doing suicides. The similarities between basketball and softball are that you run a lot, you use your hands and you develop a lot of skills.
